Sweet Potato

These orange root vegetables are packed full of vitamins and minerals.

  1. Wash the potato and pat dry.
  2. Thinly slice to roughly 1/8th of an inch.
  3. Place on the tray of your dehydrator, with a gap between each piece.
  4. Turn on to 70 degrees and set for five hours.

Keep in mind cats can find digesting some vegetables difficult. A small slice of dehydrated sweet potato as a treat is fine, but don’t give them too much!

Liver

Liver is a nutrient-rich treat that pets love. The Protein, vitamin A and fat helps to keep them healthy.

  1. Slice the liver to 1/8th of an inch.
  2. These are small treats, so you won’t need to cut them into strips or pieces normally.
  3. Place on the tray of your dehydrator, with a gap between each piece.
  4. Turn the heat to 70 degrees and set for seven hours.
  5. Liver is very moist so check this is enough, set for longer if necessary.

Be careful though not to give too much. Too much vitamin A, or hypervitaminosis A, can lead to built up toxicity which is very dangerous for your pet.

Beef

As one of the most available and commonly used meat sources for pets, beef is a great choice.

  1. Slice lean beef into 1/8th of an inch.
  2. Cut into treat sized, thin strips.
  3. Place on the tray of your dehydrator, with a gap between each piece.
  4. Turn to 70 degrees and set for six hours. If you want a more brittle treat, you can leave them longer.

Beef is high in protein and good, natural fats which all pets will enjoy.

Salmon

As we all know, cats love fish! But most other pets do too.

  1. Drain a 6-ounce can of salmon and pour into a bowl. Tear into very small pieces.
  2. Cut 1/3 cup pet grass into pieces 1/3 and 1/2 an inch long.
  3. Mix the grass and salmon together.
  4. Spread the mixture onto the tray and set for two to three hours.

Salmon provides a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. This helps with the immune system, inflammation. It can also help keep coats healthy and shiny.

Chicken

Chicken is easy to source and is a popular meat for pets.

  1. Cut the chicken into thin slices, around 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide.
  2. Place on the tray of your dehydrator, with a gap between each piece.
  3. Turn the heat to 70 degrees and set for five hours.
  4. They are done when the middle is dry and free of moisture.
  5. Cut into treat sized pieces.
